Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered numerous interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer features a character that is actually a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In 150 stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a shop to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Time your movements carefully, as a error means starting over. Leap on floating orbs to propel your character higher, navigate crumbling platforms, and activate triggers to reveal hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase more difficult levels in which things ramps up.

Visually, the game boasts neon level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The simple art with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though hard to recall other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, such content is present extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the complete version planned to debut on computers on November 19.
