China's Ice Dancers Under Probe Following Displaying Toy Missile during Event

ISU officials are conducting a formal inquiry after a pair of Chinese ice dancers appeared with an object resembling a replica weapon during a grand prix figure skating event.

Television video captured the skaters waiting with a sizable prop shaped like a rocket marked “DF-61” while waiting for their scores in the “kiss and cry” area during the event.

This model represents a new China-produced ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile capable of transporting atomic warheads, which was unveiled at a military parade last month.

Officials is aware that an inappropriate soft toy seems to have been among those tossed onto the rink by audience members after a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU commented via a release.

“The soft toy was subsequently handled by the skaters after their performance. We apologizes for this occurrence and will investigate further.”

Ren and Xing finished in eighth place of 10 pairs during the ice dancing competition, with the victory going to the American pair from the US.
